Rock a bye baby does, however, refer to the actual custom of tying babies’ cradles into trees. It kept them off the ground, where predators might be a danger, whilst the parents worked.
Actually, they were political ditties in their day, and only became children’s songs later. Yes, “ring around the rosie” is about the Black Death, but Yarrow himself says “Puff” was written as a kids’ song. Maybe we should listen to him.
“you like peter paul and mary , focker?”
“i like puff the magic dragon…who would’ve thought it reall wasn’t about a dragon huh?”
“i don’t know what you’re talking about focker…”
i really hope you are joking about this. instead of making ridiculously loose connection to drugs, you should try to notice what the songs are actually about, and realize that one or two words cant make change the entire songs meaning to making stoners think they are smart because they realized it was about drugs.
Ring around the Rosie all could be said about the cosintration camps “ashes ashes we all fall down” and puff the magic drangon is a good song for young and old alike take it as you want love it hate it what ever it’s a good song
Fun fact: In fact, Ring Around the Rosie is even more brutal. It is about the Black Death in Europe. The rosies are about the flowers the people used to wear on themselves because they thought it would help them not get the terrible disease. And “We all fall down.” is simply about dying from it.
I’m not saying this song is about drugs, because I don’t believe it is. But people used childrens songs to tell what they believed or would get in serious trouble for complaining about. I love the fact that these llttle kid songs have these deeper meanings. It really makes me feel closer to my history.
Actually none of those songs are about drugs. Their real meanings are so much more interesting, if you’d take the time to look it up. Baa Baa Black Sheep is refering to taxes from feudal times. And have you actually READ Twinkle Twinkle? It’s a story about a traveler at night being guided by the stars. Rock-a-bye baby is about the fall of the British government, and Ring around the Rosie is about protecting yourself from illness.
No need for the homophobic reference, rspeed68. Thanks.
Back to Baa Baa Black Sheep. Are you sure it isn’t about cannabis resin? Even in feudal England, people would have enjoyed a puff, while ploughing the fields in service of the local lord.
To all of you who really believe that this song is about marjuana . . . LOOK IT UP! Google it. It’s based on a previously poem written by Leonard Lipton who was inspired by an earlier Ogden Nash poem. Peter adapted the poem to song.

@NeverMindTheBLX
Dragons = fire = smoke = puff
Why would you call a dragon Puff, unless it was a reference to spliffs?

Its not about drugs, its about losing your childhood innocence when you grow up.
